1.  Contact Phone Directory Publishers

Contact the directory publisher to “opt-out” of future deliveries.  In January 2008, the Yellow Pages Association together with the Association of Directory Publishers adopted Joint Environmental Guidelines recommending that directory publishers adopt directory distribution policies that allow consumers to opt-out from receiving future print directories.  Simply call the directory publisher at the number listed in the front of the directory and tell them that you want to opt-out of future delivery. You can also look up publishers in your area here.

2.  Contact Yellow Pages Directories

Contact the major yellow pages directories directly to request that they remove you from their delivery list:

AT&T:
800-792-2665

Idearc:
800-888-8448

Dex / R.H. Donnelley:
866-606-9339

Yellow Book:
800-929-3556

You also can submit a online form to request that Dex and YellowBook remove you from their delivery list.

3.  Opt Out of Distribution

Sign up to be removed from directory distribution lists at YellowPagesGoesGreen and Paperless Petition.

4.  Recycle Phone Books

For those unused phone books that you already have, recycling is the best option.  In most cases you can simply toss them in your curbside paper-recycling container.  However, some regions require that phone books be dropped off at specified recycling centers.  Contact your local Keep America Beautiful affiliate to learn how to recycle your phone books.  Or, call 1-877-88RECYCLE (1-877-887-3292).

5.  Check Out Online Alternatives

Check out our local directories section for online directories to use instead of the print directories.  Easy, convenient and environmentally friendly!
